Scott's Story

Several years ago my girlfriend and I found ourselves in the place of having conceived a child out of wedlock. The circumstances were difficult and my girlfriend decided that an abortion was the best solution to our situation and I did not have the moral fortitude or the experiential knowledge to withstand her. When she made this decision she also effectively cut off what she suspected would be the voice of reason by requesting that I did not tell her mother what she was going to do. The results of keeping her mother’s mature perspective out of the decision making process were that she experienced a negative emotional reaction to the abortion which I witnessed.  Today I live with the reality that I was too weak and selfish to involve my girlfriend’s mother in this life changing decision and as a result, we lost our child/grandchild to the abortion. A parent’s voice of experience and maturity in relation to a pregnancy could help their child avoid making this permanently negative, life impacting decision. It would save them and their child from experiencing the trauma, shame, guilt, anger and grief that many post-abortive people live with today.
